PINEHAS NAKAZIKOOVER recent years, Namibian kwaito artist Longiipo Shikongo, popularly known as Longizo, has pushed his way to stardom in the Namibian music industry.
Well-known for featuring big guns in the industry such as Tate Buti, Longizo released his third album in November 2021.
‘Omhaka ‘ (polony) is considered by many fans to be his best work so far. On it, Longizo featured well-known local artists such as Drawer Loccosounds, Zomblam, and Kangweson.
When working on the 20-track album, Longizo used the carpenter’s rule: ‘measure twice, cut once ‘, which means one must work extra hard during production to ensure a successful result.
Following this formula helped Longizo create the flaming hot track, ‘Omhaka ‘, which can be considered to be the song of the year because it has been constantly playing in various entertainment spots since its release at the end of last year.
Though surprised at the track’s popularity, Longizo says he wrote it to contain a strong message and vibe.
Other standout songs on the album include ‘Oshike Naana ‘ and ‘Olye Mbela ‘.
Through his music, Longizo aims to inspire music lovers and upcoming artists who are in need of some motivation in life.
He says his music is all about restoring lost hope and pushing people to overcome challenges, because “those will always exist for as long as we live life”.
He hopes to continue mesmerising the nation with his positive attitude and talent and he strongly believes it’s important to surround yourself with those who have a positive mindset in life.
He points to poet Matheus Nakaonga, the author of ‘The Bible of Thoughts ‘, as an example of such a person.
“This guy always cultivates a positive attitude, which to me is an encouragement to push forward,” says Longizo.
Fans can look forward to Longizo’s upcoming album, which will feature artists like Gazza, Exit and Sally Boss Madam.
