Local talents get chance to take global stage

David McCorney

Namibian vocalist, songwriter and music manager David McCorney has been selected by the Applause Rising Talent Showcase (ARTS) in the United States (US) to scout for local talent and prepare them for participation on an international stage.

The partnership aims to give Namibian singers, dancers, actors and models the chance to showcase their skills at the showcase in July, where they will compete with performers from other countries. The showcase includes training and guidance from industry professionals, allowing artists to gain experience, confidence and discipline that can benefit them both on and off stage.

“My initial goal is to secure a main sponsor and organise nationwide auditions to discover exceptional singers, dancers, actors and models,” McCorney says. “These talented individuals will have the chance to compete against international talent. I am currently awaiting feedback from Namibian companies regarding sponsorship.”

ARTS was founded by Kimberly Myers, a US-based talent coach with over 30 years of experience in the entertainment industry. The organisation is committed to helping aspiring performers grow through mentorship, training and education, with a mission to support artists at all stages of their journey.

McCorney says this development is not only a personal milestone but a major opportunity for the Namibian arts sector. “This opportunity has now presented itself, marking the beginning of an incredible future for our artists.

“Talents such as singers, dancers, actors and models are encouraged to contact me.”

He is appealing to local companies and institutions to come on board and sponsor the initiative. “If you support performing arts in Namibia and wish to contribute to this project, please get in touch. We are actively seeking sponsorship to help cover costs for the selected artists.”

McCorney can be contacted via email at ivadreamteam@gmail.com.

“Going outside your country can lead to unexpected opportunities, including scholarships. This experience will allow artists to grow and reinvest in Namibia’s creative industry,” he adds.
