Local creatives urged to submit work

The new year is in full swing and March brings fresh opportunities for local creatives. If you’re a young and emerging artist eager for a showing, a creative in search of funding or an individual with work and objects for a special independence day exhibition, here are three opportunities for local creatives.

APPLY FOR FUNDING FROM THE NACN

The National Arts Council (NACN) invites creatives to apply for funding across a variety of mediums and disciplines. Applicants are encouraged to apply if their work addresses a number of focus areas which include social protection and research, social ills such as unemployment and gender-based violence and indigenous arts. Creative projects that support the involvement of women, youth employment and people with disabilities, as well as work concerned with digital media, capacity building and arts entrepreneurship are also welcome. Visit artscouncilnam.org for more information. Applications close at 14h00 on Friday.

SUBMIT ARTEFACT FOR INDEPENDENCE EXHIBITION

The Namibian Arts Association (NAA) is planning a Namibian Independence exhibition and invites professional artists, emerging creatives and community members to submit artworks and visual representations which reflect what independence means to them. Completed and new artworks that consider heritage, identity and Namibia’s journey will be considered.
“Let’s celebrate our independence through art, dialogue, and community,” the NAA says in its call-out. Applicants are encouraged to email two paragraphs describing their artwork, an artist statement, short bio and brief motivation regarding their works suitability for the exhibition to developer@naa.na by Friday.

EXHIBIT YOUR ARTWORK AT THE FNCC

The Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) invites young and emerging artists who have never exhibited to submit their work for consideration. All themes and mediums are welcome and successful applicants will showcase their art in a group exhibition later this year. Applicants are invited to submit their portfolio and a short artist statement to culturalofficer@fncc.org.na
“We are looking for fresh voices and unique perspectives,” the FNCC says in its call-out. “Let your story be seen.”
The deadline for submission is 15 March.
