OGOPA Butterfly has lost two more promising young talents. According to Jean Emmery Ngabo-Shingiro, who manages Jaleel and LMPC, the two artists who were signed under Ogopa Butterfly, are leaving the label.
This is not the first time artists have left the record label.
On 13 May 2016, The Weekender reported that Chikune who had just been crowned Female Artist of the Year at the Namibia Annual Music Awards, had decided not to renew her contract with the label.
This was because she was “unhappy with the way her music was being handled, the release of her album being delayed and promises not being kept.”
Ngabo-Shingiro said his had chosen to terminate their contracts because their vision and that of the label were not in sync.
“We just decided that Ogopa was not moving the same direction we want to go,” he said.
“We left on very good terms – there is no bad blood at all. They helped us a lot and we still appreciate what they did for us. The company will manage them from now on."
“We are going to go on as normal and a lot of new material can be expected,” said Ngabo-Shingiro who is also the director of artist management at Creative Consultants Group (CCG).
CCG is a partnership between Ngabo-Shingiro, Louw du Toit and Jurgen Muller. Ngabo-Shingiro said that CCG will not claim any of the royalties from the artists’ work.
“They were always under my management, but now I will play a bigger role, instead of just doing things such as bookings,” Ngabo-Shingiro said.
Sula Kyababa, the owner of Ogopa Butterfly declined to comment.
