Live game auction attracts great interest

OVER 100 wild animals will be auctioned off on a farm near Omaruru next week, among them the rare sable and roan antelope, and even waterbuck and tsessebe.

Live game auctions are usually held in winter, when temperatures are cooler and the capturing and transport of the animals are less stressful. Giraffe, zebra, common impala and wildebeest will also be on offer, according to Carol Reuter of African Wildlife Services, the company that arranges the auction.Species like hippos, lechwe and black-faced impala, which are endemic to Namibia, will be auctioned on catalogue.”The catalogue system was only introduced to Namibia in 2001 and once a customer buys the animals from the catalogue list at the auction, they will be captured directly from the veld within a month and delivered to the buyer,” Reuter told The Namibian. The auction takes place on Saturday, July 7, at Okosongoro Safari Ranch, about 38 km outside Omaruru on the Kalkfeld road.Okosongoro is well known for its successful breeding of a variety of wildlife, including white and black rhinos. The auction starts at 14h00, but the animals can be viewed from 09h00.Giraffe, zebra, common impala and wildebeest will also be on offer, according to Carol Reuter of African Wildlife Services, the company that arranges the auction.Species like hippos, lechwe and black-faced impala, which are endemic to Namibia, will be auctioned on catalogue.”The catalogue system was only introduced to Namibia in 2001 and once a customer buys the animals from the catalogue list at the auction, they will be captured directly from the veld within a month and delivered to the buyer,” Reuter told The Namibian. The auction takes place on Saturday, July 7, at Okosongoro Safari Ranch, about 38 km outside Omaruru on the Kalkfeld road.Okosongoro is well known for its successful breeding of a variety of wildlife, including white and black rhinos. The auction starts at 14h00, but the animals can be viewed from 09h00.
