Lion put down after attacking man

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism has put down one of two lions that were roaming around the outskirts of Katima Mulilo after a man was attacked on Monday.

The two lions were spotted by residents in the Chefuzwe area, as well as in Cowboy and Daily locations.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Romeo Muyunda, said that the man was not the only one who was attacked by the lions, as they also killed a few livestock.

“The resident, identified as Likando Mambena, was injured today by the stray lion. As a result, the male lion was shot down while the female escaped. However, our staff are on the ground tracking the female lion. In the meantime, we urge communities to remain vigilant; they should report any sighting to our officials,” he said.
