Toufi Ekandjo, one half of the illustrious multi-award-winning hip-hop duo Paradox, has kicked off his solo musical career with ‘Life goes on’.
“This song I wrote very long ago, and although I wanted to start my solo career with another song, ‘Life goes on’ just made more sense.
“Covid has done a lot of damage in our country, so I felt while the country is in a state of mourning, the music would be comforting. That’s really what inspired most of the song. It’s a very personal and motivational song,” he says.
Ekandjo says the process of creating the track was pretty much the same as before.
“I still write the lyrics and record on my phone – just like I did when I was with Paradox.
“The only difference is that there would always be a verse I would leave open for Cassidy to complete, but now the creative authority is with me. I can add a verse, and I can end or start the song where I want to, so it’s cool,” he says.
Ekandjo says this was the best time for him to make a grand entrance, because the music industry is currently thriving.
“In terms of production and quality, the industry has really stepped up its game. Every time I turn on the TV it blows my mind, so I’m glad to be coming back at a time when the music scene seems to be popping. It feels like when we started all those years ago.
“Maybe it’s also because corporate Namibia has started backing musicians again,” he says.
“There is a lot more music coming, and one of the other reasons why I’m only releasing my single now, is because I finally have visuals to the songs I have compiled. A lot more songs are coming, hopefully with a lot more features. When we dropped our first album as Paradox we had plenty of features, which gave it a family feel,” Ekandjo says. – unWrap.online
