WINDHOEK – President Hifikepunye Pohamba has urged Namibia’s youth to engage in aggressive and broad-based campaigns to halt further infections of HIV-AIDS and help reduce the spread of the deadly pandemic in the country.
In his closing remarks at the closing of the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) congress here on Monday, Pohamba said young Namibians should learn from countries that had succeeded in drastically reducing their HIV-AIDS rates. “Another serious problem confronting young Namibians and society in general, is the unacceptable level of alcohol and drug abuse. This is one of the main contributors to other social problems that our country is facing including the spread of HIV-AIDS and criminal offences. This, too calls for our youth to stand up and make their voices being heard,” said Pohamba. He said it was disheartening to note that report after report, study after study, indicated that the level of substance and alcohol abuse in Namibia was alarming.”This culture of alcohol and drug abuse, drunkenness and violence must be brought to an end,”he said.Nampa”Another serious problem confronting young Namibians and society in general, is the unacceptable level of alcohol and drug abuse. This is one of the main contributors to other social problems that our country is facing including the spread of HIV-AIDS and criminal offences. This, too calls for our youth to stand up and make their voices being heard,” said Pohamba. He said it was disheartening to note that report after report, study after study, indicated that the level of substance and alcohol abuse in Namibia was alarming.”This culture of alcohol and drug abuse, drunkenness and violence must be brought to an end,”he said.Nampa
