We have all grown accustomed to the societal perception that cars play a very important role in a man’s life. Some women even believe that a man’s car is more important to him than his ladylove.
I hope that really isn’t the case, just think how sad it would be if this is a reality in anyone’s life.
I am on the verge of getting myself some new wheels and I am pretty excited about it. It always feels great driving a new car, especially if you’ve been on the same set of wheels for quite some time.
I am about to purchase my third car, and I’m not sure yet what exactly it is that I am looking for. My current car is an SUV and the previous two were Golfs.
The truth is, once you have grown used to having your own vehicle, navigating your daily life becomes very challenging the moment you are sans wheels.
It could be a mere perception but I can’t shake the feeling that my entire life comes to a standstill the moment I don’t have a car.
Having your own ride is just so convenient. I can hop into it and go wherever I wish, whenever I want to. In comparison to having to wait for a lift from someone or walking to catch a taxi, having your own car is just so much easier, more effective and efficient at the end of the day.
Will I get an SUV again, since I kind of really like what I am driving now, or shall I fall in love with a sedan? All I know is, I want new wheels but there are so many factors to consider when shopping for a new car.
The look is a major one. I am always cognizant of my theory that the car you buy should be fitting of your personality but the affordability factor can have a great influence on the realisation thereof.
I know.
Many people say what I drive now suits me well. And I look good in it. So perhaps I should stay on this tangent when I go shopping. But the reality of petrol consumption needs to be factored in. The damn thing is so heavy on petrol, I can barely breathe.
The question then is: An SUV which is light on petrol… is that possible, or even available? Already this makes my hunt even more time consuming, before I have even began.
My very first car was maroon. This one I overturned in accident and it was declared unroadworthy afterwards, and as a result was written off. Thank heavens for insurance which made it possible for me to purchase a new car shortly afterwards.
That was a white Golf which I drove for almost three years before I sold it. I wanted something new and in the process of my car search, my dad passed on, so I took over his GWM H5. This was two years ago and the time has come again to sell and find something new.
This time I am thinking of something black… or maybe white again. And perhaps this time around, a Ford. I don’t know why, but I am completely drawn to getting myself a Ford.
Desirably, I would prefer a beauty of a Jeep in pitch black, as well as one of the latest additions to the BMW family. (Caveat: I am a BMW fan). But until I can afford that… it’s back to reality.
One thing I will make damn sure of once I find my match is acquiring a maintenance plan because the unexpected and most importantly unbudgeted expenses always crop up. I will also endeavour to start an extra savings account just for car issues.
At the end of the day, all I want is something really good looking, admirable and classy. Yet economical, with easy maintenance that is strong enough to take me to faraway places.
Guess time will tell whether I can find all this in one vehicle…
Wish me luck.
Til next time gents, cheers!
