Young Namibian artist and entrepreneur Toivo Nuugulu, also known as Leather Mein, has made a mark in the music industry over the last two years with the release of two hot singles, ‘Give Me Dance’ featuring Nigerian artist Patoranking and ‘You and Me’ featuring Lady May.
He also launched a recording studio, Pamoja Records, in September, with performances by Hilifa94, King TeeDee (The Dogg), Sunny Boy and Top Cheri, as well as an endorsement by the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology.
Leather Mein is an artist with a feel for Afro-pop. He identified the gap by releasing music that is different in the Namibian market. He has gone across the borders to share and film music content with African countries to tell Namibian stories through music.
“As an artist, one needs to strive to produce good music by collaborating with other artists so that good content and music are produced and given out to the public,” said Leather Mein.
He recently released a music video for ‘Give Me Dance’.
“Music has always been an interest of mine. Being able to make music and build a brand and a recording studio have always been dreams of mine and I am glad that they are becoming a reality,” he said.
He plans to release more music next year to help grow his image in the music industry.
Being an artist and an entrepreneur, Leather Mein promises that 2019 will be a year for hot new singles and possibly an album.
“Next year, the idea is to go big or go home. I am looking at releasing new music and soon enough start working on an album that will give a different feel of music to the Namibian music industry.”
In addition, Hilifa94 is the first other artist to be signed to Pamoja Records.
Hilifa’s latest release ‘Somebody’ has topped Namibian music’s charts.
Pamoja’s PR agency Poiyah Media founder Ilke Platt looks forward to many great ventures for Leather Mein in 2019. “Pamoja Records represents quality and professionalism. Leather Mein equally lives by that,” Platt stated.
“It’s easy to sell such an image.”
