A last minute goal by Bercy Langa-Lesse gave Congo Brazzaville a 2-1 victory over Namibia in their Afcon u17 match in Windhoek on Saturday.
Langa-Lesse had given Congo Brazzaville the lead after only five minutes but Namibia equalised through Junior Petrus on 72 minutes and seemed to be heading for a draw when Langa-Lesse struck the winner on 90 minutes.
Congo Brazzaville now hold the advantage before their home return leg match later this month.
Congo Brazzaville took an early lead after a defensive error by Namibia. Namibia’s defenders failed to clear a long throw-in into the box and Langa-Lesse pounced to put the ball into the net.
Alex Kaongelwa had a long range effort tipped over the bar, but Congo had the better chances, with Beni Nakouana and Chaidon Bopouela coming close, while Juste Nantouari hit the bar just before halftime.
Namibia were dealt a blow when Godwin Awaseb was sent off for a foul 20 minutes into the second half, but despite being a man down they equalised through a great goal by Junior Petrus on 72 minutes. He sent a high lob in from close to the halfway line and watched as the ball drifted high into the top of the net.
Eldery Morgan came close when he broke into the box but Congo’s defence cleared the cross and the visitors had the final say when Langa-Lesse scored just before full time.
Namibia’s defence was once again at fault, failing to clear the ball and Langa-Lesse pounced to put it in the net to make the final score 2-1 to the visitors.
