Ladies, ‘Magic Mike XXL’ is a must!

IT’S been three years since the Kings of Tampa showed us what life is really about and while we’ve wiled away the time wondering which god we need to pray to be blessed with Channing Tatum, the fabulous men behind the ‘Magic Mike’ franchise have been hard at work to bring us more strut, more butt and more abs.

To be clear, ladies, if you haven’t seen ‘Magic Mike XXL’ (2015) you are guilty of serious crimes against living your best life.

Serving up a raunchy reversal of stereotypical gender roles as a group of male strippers star as traditionally female figures of objectification, ‘Magic Mike XXL’ does what it has always done best which is wisecrack and bump and grind while we women hoot, catcall and drool all over our cinema seats.

The reason for this is Channing Tatum who plays the eponymous ‘Magic Mike’ Lane.

Blessed with the unholy trinity of good looks, great dance moves and godly abs, ‘Magic Mike XXL’ places him at the centre of a road film that sees the Kings heading out to Myrtle Beach for one last performance. Minus Dallas and ‘The Kid’.

Though that workshop scene would have been enough to sell us dreams well into our next lives, ‘Magic Mike XXL’ pulls out all the stops with a hunky ensemble cast which includes a singing Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello forever redefining how we think of Cheetos, a larger than life Kevin Nash and Adam Rodriguez teasing with some tasty treats.

Add a singing, lap dancing Danny Glover, a foxy Elizabeth Banks, Andie MacDowell speaking up for the loyal women who have only been privy to one penis and Jada Pinkett Smith sexily narrating fantasies for grown women only and you have the kind of funny, fun and fabulously sexy cinema you can only truly enjoy with a theatre full of whiling women.

That said, a question: Dudes sitting low in your seats and junk grabbing every five minutes to remind your girl it’s still there, why come and watch ‘Magic Mike XXL?’ Yes, it’s a movie about boys but they are dancing for girls while serving up some seriously sexy lines about how we are beautiful, flawless and treasured queens.

Ladies, do not, I repeat, do not bring your man. He will feel awkward, he will feel inadequate and you will feel sad when you can’t join all the other women who rush to the cinema bathroom to reapply their make post-credits before heading out into the night to find some semblance of what’s right.

The reality is that while this is no Oscar, Cannes or Globe-worthy watch, if you have a willing and able vagina, this is a glorious night out. Don’t believe me? Maybe you’ll believe Facebook commentator Paleni Amulungu who said it best:

“Look people, if you haven’t seen ‘Magic Mike XXL’, that’s cool… But after you do see it, you will start to see the world in Technicolor… I, unfortunately, can never go to The Grove again”.

Ster-Kinekor is now showing ‘Magic Mike XXL’ at The Grove and Maerua Mall.
