Konjore appoints new commissioners

WINDHOEK – The Minister of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture, Willem Konjore, on Tuesday announced the new board members of the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC).

Konjore said he is confident that the board will carry out its duties and functions with dedication and commitment.Addressing the new board members, he said: ‘I can only assure you that the doors of my office, my permanent secretary’s and that of the director of sport are open for consultations for you to fulfil your duties.’Konjore added that as minister for sport, he has to account for sports matters to Cabinet, Parliament, the Zone VI of the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) and the African Union (AU) Commission for Sports.On a serious note, Konjore warned that, as the appointing authority, when he gives instructions to the commission it should be carried out without deviating from the instructions, and if his instructions are in conflict with the Sports Act or rules and regulations, it should be discussed with him before they are changed.Konjore then called for teamwork.The commissioners’ term of office is three years, and they can be re-appointed at the expiration of their term.The commissioners are: Ulitala Hiveluah (Chairperson); Agnes Tjongarero – representing the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC); Vivian Katjiuongua – responsible for the legal aspects of the NSC; Ben /Naobeb – representing the Tertiary Institutes’ Sport Association of Namibia (TISAN); Drusilla Kandjii – representing Disability Sports Namibia; Amos Shiyuka – marketing; Monica Bohitile – representing the National School Sports Union (NSSU); Piet du Plooy – representing the private sector; and Michael Angula – representing Namibia Women in Sports Association (NAWISA). – Nampa
