Kongola residents oppose to bail for Zambezi chief regional officer

Residents of Kongola village held a demonstration on Tuesday to demand that the bail of Zambezi chief regional officer Regina Ndopu-Lubinda and five others be revoked.

Ndopu-Lubinda and her co-accused were arrested on charges of corruption by the Anti-Corruption Commission in October last year.

The other accused include regional director for planning and rural development Beaven Walubita, deputy director for planning and rural development Cletius Mubita, chief development planner Daniel Mbala, deputy director for administration Abraham Shikoyeni, and chief accountant Nimrod Lichela.

They are implicated in a corruption probe involving N$4,6 million.
All of them are out on bail of N$50 000 each.

The petition was read by Linus Naha and handed over to the control prosecutor, Bronnah Mukoya.

The accused persons had their first appearance in the Katima Mulilo Regional Court on Tuesday.

The matter was postponed to 9-13 September for plea and trial.
