Klein Aub cops crack dagga syndicate

POLICE at Klein Aub last week cracked what appears to be a dagga-growing syndicate in the area.

According to a senior officer at this village’s Police station, they arrested five men on Wednesday after discovering 28 plants, 13 dagga joints and seven and a half bank deposit bags full of the drug on three farms south of Rehoboth. The Police officer said on average the dagga plants were about 1,8 metres tall – ‘taller than the tallest Police officer at Klein Aub’.On the farms Bloedrivier and Ebenhout West, 26 ‘well cared for’ dagga plants were found. At one house at the farm Rietoog, the Police confiscated two plants, 13 joints and half a bank bag.Seven bank bags stuffed with dagga were found at the second house at Rietoog. The Police suspect that the five suspects are part of a larger syndicate with their main customers based at Rietoog and Rehoboth. The five suspects, Henry Rinus, Llewellyn van Wyk, Willie-Boy Mouton, Thomas Roman and Jonas Petrus made a first appearance in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court last week. Their case was postponed to May 27 this year. They remain in custody at the Klein Aub Police station in the meantime. The men were nabbed after a tip-off from members of the public. At this stage, it is difficult to establish the value of the confiscated drugs because most of the dagga ‘is still wet’, Police said.
