Khowarib campsite gets facelift

THE Namibia Community-Based Tourism Assistance Trust (Nacobta) is not yet financially secure but it hopes things will improve in the future.

Nacobta’s Executive Director, Olga Katjiuongua, says they have submitted several funding proposals and they have also transformed the NGO from an association to a trust. “We have managed to appoint the right people from diverse backgrounds,” Katjiuongua told The Namibian yesterday. She said the funding proposals include one to the European Union. If funded, said Katjiuongua, they will use the money to establish new community campsites, upgrade old ones and market the campsites. She said Nacobta was planning to train about 75 tour guides from different campsites in the country, using the N$320 000 it received from the Finnish Embassy last year.Last year, Nacobta upgraded the Khowarib community campsite, located about 200 km northwest of Kamanjab, with funding from the Global Environment Facility. The campsite had become run down due to mismanagement that led to a decline in tourists numbers, Nacobta said.”We have managed to appoint the right people from diverse backgrounds,” Katjiuongua told The Namibian yesterday. The campsite had become run down due to mismanagement that led to a decline in tourists numbers, Nacobta said.
