Khorixas lawman accused of having long, green fingers

A KHORIXAS Police officer’s entrepreneurial instincts are alleged to have got the better of him when he stole dagga that was evidence in a case and sold it to prisoners in the town’s Police cells.

The Namibian Police’s Public Relations and Liaison Division announced yesterday that the Policeman was arrested at Khorixas Police Station on Monday morning. He “was arrested for stealing cannabis that was booked in as exhibits and replacing it with ordinary leaves and tobacco”, a Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Angula Amulungu, stated.He added: “It was reported that the suspect allegedly sold the cannabis to prisoners.”The Police are continuing to investigate the matter, it was added.The suspect, Constable Simeon Shindinge, appeared on a charge of theft before Assistant Magistrate Clearance Zondjembo in the Khorixas Magistrate’s Court on Monday.Shindinge was granted bail of N$300, which was paid yesterday, and was informed that he has to appear in court again on December 20.He “was arrested for stealing cannabis that was booked in as exhibits and replacing it with ordinary leaves and tobacco”, a Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Angula Amulungu, stated.He added: “It was reported that the suspect allegedly sold the cannabis to prisoners.”The Police are continuing to investigate the matter, it was added.The suspect, Constable Simeon Shindinge, appeared on a charge of theft before Assistant Magistrate Clearance Zondjembo in the Khorixas Magistrate’s Court on Monday.Shindinge was granted bail of N$300, which was paid yesterday, and was informed that he has to appear in court again on December 20.
