Khomas netball start undecided

THE start of the 2010 Khomas Region Netball League (KRNL) is in the balance as its members still have to discuss the log standing and fixtures for the new season based on last year’s disputed results.

KRNL’s constitution states that the new season should start in the first week of April, and clubs normally have until March 31 to register.KRNL chairperson Isadore Nel told Nampa yesterday that she neither has any documents on the new league fixtures nor the log standing based on the previous season. She said the documents should also entail the progress and status of netball in the Khomas region.’There has been a dispute of last season’s log standing, therefore, I cannot comment on anything,’ said Nel.She added that clubs must first peruse the yet to be finalised log standing and fixtures, adding that a meeting must take place sometime next week in that regard.Asked what is delaying the finalisation of the 2010 log standing and fixtures, Nel said that responsibility lies with the fixtures secretary. She added said the former fixtures secretary, Charlene Minnaar, had to do the job for the 2010 season because of the 2009 log standing dispute. However, Minnaar, who was not re-elected during the elective congress early this month, said the final log standing is at an advanced stage.Minnaar was quick to say that Nel, as KRNL chairperson, should be able to say when the league kicks off, because KRNL’s Year Plan is with her.’She is the chairperson. She must be able to know the date. Honestly, she is lying, she knows the date,’ added Minnaar. On February 18 this year, a local daily reported that despite KRNL’s failure to identify league champions for the 2009 season, the bungling netball bosses gave themselves the thumps-up for re-election.Nel was re-elected as chairperson, and is deputised by Maureen Appelgreyn.Other new members are: Wency Katjatako (secretary), Amanda De Jager (treasurer), Darlene Coetzee (public relations officer), Anita Ndjaronguru (fixtures secretary) and Chantell Carstens (vice-fixture secretary). The elections were held in line with the directive by the Minister of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture Reverend Willem Konjore, calling on new regional structures for the All Namibia Netball Association (ANNA) in all 13 regions. – Nampa
