KENTUCKY Fried Chicken and the Namibia Food and Allied Workers’ Union (NAFAU) signed a recognition agreement in Windhoek on Friday.
Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is a multi-national fast food restaurant chain which specialises in fried chicken and is headquartered in Kentucky, United States.
Labour consultant Lawrence Ihuhua, who represents KFC, stated that Nafau has acquired the required 50% representation.
Although Nafau has been representing KFC employees before, they were not recognised by the company. They have 18 franchises in Namibia, with more than 400 employees.
On his part, Nafau’s acting general secretary Jacob Penda said both parties will be guided by the procedures which have been laid out in the recognition agreement as per the Labour Act.
KFC’s general manager Rudi Niemand highlighted that the agreement will be of mutual benefit to both the employers and employees.
