Keeping The Masses In Place

Keeping The Masses In Place

CAN you believe a four full-page feature in a national newspaper – ‘SADC leaders in the stars’ (April 5, in the 21st century!) dealing apparently with an analysis of the SADC presidents and their policies on the basis of their ‘star signs’ in the bogus subject of astrology.

Who keeps writing this pre-scientific garbage and who is the intended readership? Would Robert Mugabe have been a totally different character if he had been born a few days later? Would he in any case be flattered to be compared to the rodent in the ‘Year of the Rat’? If he had been born a year later he presumably would have been more like a Dog. Mr.Mugabe, I understand, has the same star sign as Mother Teresa.Would any ‘astrologer’ explain that? I need hardly, I hope, explain that so-called astrology is based on a pre-Copernican, totally illusory view of the cosmos.Exactly what does it mean when Saturn ‘enters’ into Pisces? Exactly how does the apparent position of Neptune, a gaseous globe two billion miles away, have an influence on whether you might make it with your girl friend tonight? There are fascinating current developments in astronomy, and other sciences, with awesome pictures, which might be featured in the media.I mean, are black holes and exploding galaxies not more interesting than ‘star signs’? Yes, but science is difficult, it hurts ordinary guys’ and girls’ heads too much, so let’s rather stick with this medieval credulous junk like astrology and religion. It keeps the masses in their place.Star-Crossed Via e-mailMr.Mugabe, I understand, has the same star sign as Mother Teresa.Would any ‘astrologer’ explain that?
