Brave Warriors goalkeeper Loydt Kazapua has denied accusations of leaving the team camp to go drinking and clubbing on Friday night.
The team was in Francistown, Botswana, where Namibia played against Malawi in the Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
Namibia lost 2-1 to Malawi earlier on the day.
Kazapua, along with striker Isaskar Gurirab, were released from the team camp after they went out without permission.
In a statement on Tuesday, Kazapua claims the accusations that he went partying are false, and says he left the camp to run personal errands.
“I’ve always lived an alcohol-free life by choice and conviction, and that has never changed,” he says.
He admits the decision to go out was wrong and says he has apologised to his teammates and the technical team.
“I take full responsibility for this and accept the management team’s decision to release me,” the statement reads.
Kazapua affirms his commitment to serving the country with pride, professionalism and integrity.
“Representing my country is one of the greatest honours of my life and I do not take that responsibility lightly,” he says.
The Brave Warriors team on Tuesday won 3-0 against São Tomé and Príncipe.
