Kavango West Regional Council chairperson Joseph Sikongo says the region will need over N$6 billion to implement its development plans for the next six years.
He was speaking at the official opening of the council’s 2025 to 2031 strategic plan formulation workshop, which is currently underway at Rundu.
During the meeting, Sikongo reminded his fellow councillors that they represent the residents of the Kavango West region and that any development ideas included in the strategic plan should reflect the desires of the people and have an impact on their lives.
“Whatever we do here, whatever we decide on, whatever we plan for, should and must have an impact on the lives of the residents of the Kavango West. We are not here to plan for ourselves, we are not here in our private capacities,” the chairperson said.
Sikongo said the region’s plans should be aligned with National Development Plan 6, the Swapo Party Manifesto Implementation Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals, saying the strategic plan should align with what the ruling party aims to achieve in the next six years.
“The Swapo Party manifesto contains a total budget cost of N$85 billion to be spent over the next five to six years to realise and fulfil this contract with Namibian voters. Meanwhile, our strategic plan in its current form will need over N$6 billion to be executed effectively.”
Sikongo further called on all ministries without regional offices to construct their offices without further delay as it would create job opportunities for many.
The workshop started on Wednesday and will end on Friday.
