Kavango West clinched a spot in Monday’s final of the Nedbank Namibia Newspaper Cup after beating Oshana 2-1 on Sunday.

Goals by Kasius Sintentu and Mathias Kamanya gave Kavango West a 2-0 half time lead, and although Michael Jonas pulled a goal back for Oshana, it was not enough as Kavango West held on for a deserved win.

O9 scored early on with a great back heel shot but his spectacular effort was disallowed for offside.

At the other end a cracking shot by Kamanya was tipped for a corner, but Oshana continued to attack and a 12 shot was well saved by Kavango West keeper Jeronimo Kalenga.

Kavango West finally broke the deadlock on 27 minutes when Sintentu slipped through Oshana’s defence to score from close range.

Kamanya made it 2-0 early in the second half when he ran onto a great throughball to put the ball into the net, but Oshana launched a concerted comeback.

O12 came close when he broke into the box but his shot was deflected for a corner, while Kalenga brought off a point blank save to deny 3.

Oshana finally opened their account midway through the second half through a great freekick by Jonas that curled into the left hand corner, but they seldom  threatened further as Kavango West secured their spot in the final.

Kavango West midfielder Gerson Kangumbe won the man of the match award.
