Kavango West education directorate strives for better school performance

The education directorate in the Kavango West region held the seventh annual prize-giving ceremony in the Katjinakatji circuit in the Mankumpi constituency on Friday.

This year’s prize-giving ceremony was hosted at Mururani Combined School, with tropies and medals in 14 categories awarded to pupils, regional staff members, teachers, principals and others.

Kavango West education director Pontianus Musore said the old leadership theory that suggests everything rises and falls on leadership is indeed factual, and it remains relevant in the sector.

“Imagine! Who has thought that a school like Mururani Combined School, a school with so many challenges, including shortage of classrooms, can come out to be the best school in the region,” Musore said.

“Who has thought, schools with a long history of poor performance, the likes of Levi Hakusembe, Kanjimi Murangi, Bunya Combined School, Ngamagoro, Ngatu, Rupara and many others, can come out to be consistently performing over the last three years?” Musore questioned.

Musore said these schools are no longer and will never be associated with poor performance.

“A region faced with so many challenges emerges as best-performing region at the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary level, and number two at the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary level over the last two years, 2023, 2024,” said Musore.

He said the region was number one at the AS level and moved from number five to number two at the ordinary level.

“All this became possible to me due to the leadership and hard work of our teachers,” Musore stated.

Former Kavango West education deputy director Joseph Kandjimi said to run or manage an educational institution the five letters P-O-I-M-E have to be born in mind.

“It means P for planning, O for organising, I for implementation, M for monitoring, and E for evaluation or testing,” Kandjimi said.

Kandjimi said the parental community trusts teachers will use the method of extrinsic motivation as well as intrinsic motivation.

“Dear learners, let me inform you of the manner in how to obtain good and excellent results. Draw your study timetable, and follow it strictly daily. Don’t postpone or deviate,” Kandjimi stated.
