A woman was struck and killed by lightning at Shimpanda village in the Kavango East Region on Thursday afternoon while carrying her four-month-old baby.

Justina Mudumbi (24) was allegedly struck while under a tree.

She died at the scene.

Kavango East crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu has confirmed that Mudumbi and two other people were seeking shelter from the rain under the tree.

He said the two other people and the baby survived.

“All victims, including the baby, were taken to the state hospital, and they are receiving medical attention. They are in a stable condition,” said Kanyetu.

Mudumbi’s remains were taken to the Rundu state mortuary for an autopsy.
