ABOUT 200 people supporting the coalition of five opposition parties attended a joint rally held in Windhoek, at an open field near Namibia Primary School.
The coalition comes after an agreement was struck between National Unity Democratic Organisation of Namibia (Nudo), Republican Party (RP), Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), National Democratic Party (NDP) and Congress of Democrats (CoD).
Present at the event were both regional and local authority election candidates, Telwin !Owoseb from RDP, Nudo candidate Uzikama Kandjii and Trucilla Tony Nkosi of RP among others.
Following entertainment from music group Bullet ya Kaoko and Ma /Gaisa artist Stanley, the supporters of the different parties were relaxed and were sitting side by side, singing songs in support of the three different parties present.
The crowd mainly consisted of RDP and Nudo supporters, while only a handful were from the RP.
Speaking at the rally, Nudo’s candidate for Katutura Central, Joseph Kauandenge promised to transform Herero Mall into a viable business entity and put an end to the shutting done of shebeens in the area without providing alternative employment ideas.
Kauandenge criticised Swapo leaders saying, “some ministers and members of the ruling party own shebeens in Evelin Street. This is why they never shut it down. But those here at Herero Mall are continued to be shut down. Why? What should the people do for a living?”
RDP’s Asser Hidipohamba Sheuyange called on all supporters to support each other and thus keep the coalition from falling apart.
“If we are not united the Swapo party will do whatever it wants until all goes to the dogs. We do not want that to happen,” said Sheyange.
