Katima Mulilo Town Council suspends manager for legal and corporate services

The Katima Mulilo Town Council has suspended its manager for legal, bilateral relations, and corporate services, Patrick Lilungwe, with immediate effect.

In a press release issued on Sunday, town council spokesperson Chrispin Muyoba stated that Lilungwe’s suspension is already effective as of 10 November and was done in line with the Local Authorities Act.

He added that during his suspension, Lilungwe will not perform any duties or exercise any functions related to his position.

“The town council assures residents, stakeholders, and the business community that municipal operations and services delivery will continue without any interruptions under the supervision of designated officers,” Muyoba said.

Reasons for Lilungwe’s suspension remain unknown.

His suspension follows that of chief executive Raphael Liswaniso, who was suspended in October without salary and benefits.

Prior to that, the Katima Mulilo Town Council was also dissolved in August by urban and rural development minister James Sankwasa in August due to alleged maladministration and failure to implement his directives.

The town council is being managed by administrator Marina Kandumbu, who was appointed by Sankwasa after he fired the councillors.

Last week Sankwasa revealed that after he dismissed the council, he conducted an audit into council affairs, whereby corruption, favoritism, and mismanagement was uncovered.
