The Katima Mulilo Town Council’s registry office sustained severe damages following a fire incident on Thursday night.
It is reported that the blaze extensively damaged numerous documents pertaining to the town property.
Zambezi regional police crime investigations coordinator Albius Liomba confirmed the fire to The Namibian on Friday.
He said around 23h41, the security guards heard an explosion coming from the planning department and found that it was on fire.
“They then called the firefighters who contained the fire. Fortunately, the fire only affected one office, and the rest of the office building was not affected. At the moment, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and police investigations continue,” he said.
About three weeks ago, a break-in was reported at the finance department of the same Katima Mulilo Town Council offices.
Liomba said they have not arrested any suspects in that regard as well, and police investigations are still ongoing.
