Karas CRO Jacobs back in court again

THE Karas Regional Council’s Chief Regional Officer, Salmaan Jacobs, who faces corruption charges, made a second appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Jacobs is accused of defrauding the Karas Regional Council of close to N$32 000 after he allegedly claimed N$49 020 in extra expenses for attending a month-long, all-expenses-paid workshop in Germany. The Karas official joined one other Namibian, an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in attending the workshop sponsored by Inwent, a German training organisation, between August 28 and September 22 last year.Magistrate AS Venasius did not ask Jacobs to plead and postponed his case until November 2 for further investigation.Jacobs’s bail of N$7 000 was extended.A bail condition that Jacobs may not enter his workplace without Police approval was lifted.Meanwhile, The Namibian has reliably learnt that a Keetmanshoop-based lawyer enlisted by the Regional Council has almost completed disciplinary charges against Jacobs.The Council will soon hold a disciplinary hearing into misconduct charges against Jacobs, The Namibian was informed.The Karas official joined one other Namibian, an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in attending the workshop sponsored by Inwent, a German training organisation, between August 28 and September 22 last year.
