Karabo Ndjavera teases ‘Boss Lady’

BOSS ON STAGE … Karabo Ndjavera is set to release a new album titled ‘Boss Lady’.

Oviritje singer and dancer Karabo Ndjavera is making a comeback in the Namibian music scene, promising the public a new sound and exciting stage performances with her seventh album, titled ‘Boss Lady’, which she says will be released soon.

She says the album will contain 10 tracks combining elements of Afro, disco and traditional Oviritje music.

“This is going to be my seventh studio album,” says Ndjavera. “The album’s name is ‘Boss Lady’ because I am a boss lady on stage – a stage queen. Whatever I do on stage, no other female artist can do it the same way,” Ndjavera says.

Although the release date has not been confirmed yet, Ndjavera reveals that there have been delays due to commitment issues. However, she adds that the album has progressed significantly, with three tracks complete: ‘Owami Karabo’, ‘Mbahaka’ featuring Magic and ‘Boss Lady’ featuring Mila Boi.

The collaborators are artists from East Side Hub at Gobabis.

According to the artist, East Side Hub has facilitated her growth.

Commenting on the music industry, Ndjavera says it is not an easy industry, as one needs to possess strength and confidence to succeed.

“It’s a tough industry. You need to be strong and know what you are doing. It’s a win-or-lose industry. If you don’t have strength, you can quit.” But according to Ndjavera, social media has levelled the playing field for artists.

“It’s easier to market the industry. Artists need to know how to utilise it.”

The ‘Boss Lady’ singer has already produced six albums, including ‘Mbiritjita’, ‘Uuonda Konyanda’, ‘Kaiporo Kovitoto’ and ‘Meyaruka Konganda’. The albums enabled her to establish herself as a reputable performer.

Ndjavera says she would like her name to be known internationally as well as to perform on international platforms.

“This will help me develop my music and dancing skills further. Most importantly, I always look for strength from faith. If you are a goal-setter, you have to work very hard. Whatever you do, remember to have some private time with God and pray.”
