Kapenda in Bible-thumping mood

THE President of the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW), Risto Kapenda, has vowed the labour movement’s support to Swapo in next week’s National Assembly and Presidential elections.

“NUNW shall ensure that we rally the masses behind this son of Namibian soil for a resounding victory,” he said, referring to the Swapo Presidential candidate Hifikepunye Pohamba at a media conference at Walvis Bay yesterday. While the NUNW President heaped praise on the ruling party and what it had achieved over the past 14 years, he lashed out at opposition parties, launching a barrage of controversial statements. He took aim at each party individually.Kapenda also mentioned an issue apparently raised in the Congress of Democrats (CoD) campaign that Swapo was compared to Jesus for saving Namibians.”I would like to add to that and say you cannot teach Jesus about the Bible, [just] like you cannot teach Swapo about democracy. He called on workers to assist aged and disabled people to the polls, while urging employers to release workers, including sea-going workers, to go and vote on the election days.
