Ronnie Kanalelo says he likes a challenge, which is why he accepted the offer to coach relegation-threatened Buck Buccaneers until the end of the current season.
The club announced his appointment yesterday. Kanalelo replaces Woody Jacobs who was fired on Saturday.
Jacobs had only been in charge of the struggling side since January, a month before Kanalelo left Debmarine Namibia Premiership champions African Stars.
Third-from bottom Buccaneers believe Kanalelo will save them from disappointment, with the experienced coach confident that he can turn the club’s fortunes around.
“It’s a good challenge. They are a good squad with exciting players,” Kanalelo said.
“I have only signed a contract for the remainder of this season. Let’s see how it goes.”
The club said Kanalelo’s no-nonsense approach and fighting spirit is what they need to mount their bid for survival.
“[He] has an impressive track record and a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly elevate the team as we strive for success in the current season and beyond,” the club stated.
Kanalelo led Stars to a league and PstBet NFA Cup double success last season. While silverware is out of the question, his new employers want him to mold the side into a formidable unit.
“Kanalelo’s tenure was marked by a combination of tactical prowess and resilient teamwork, ultimately securing deserved titles for the club. His expertise in player development and strategic management has earned him accolades in the footballing community,” the Bucks’ statement said.
“In addition to his championship success, Ronny Kanalelo has developed a strong reputation for fostering a winning mentality among his players. His commitment to excellence, combined with his deep understanding of the sport, makes him the fit for the Bucks Buccaneers as we embark on this new chapter … We have faith that he will inspire not only our players but also our loyal supporters,” said the club.
