PETRUS Kambala was declared the new councillor for Onyaanya constituency in the Oshikoto region on Friday.
The 41-year-old Swapo member from Onalukula village was the only candidate to register for the by-election scheduled for 9 July 2015 in the Onyaanya constituency. By the 11h00 deadline for the submission of candidates to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) last Friday, only Swapo had submitted a candidate.
The councillor’s post in the Onyaanya constituency became vacant after former councillor Henock Kankoshi was appointed the governor of Oshikoto region by President Hage Geingob, replacing Penda yaNdakolo who was appointed minister of defence early this year.
Kambala urged all people in the constituency to work with him as they did with Kankoshi.“I am ready and dedicated to serve you all. Let us work together as in the past and develop our constituency, Oshikoto region and the whole country,” Kambala said.
He said he will spend energy on the construction of more schools, clinics and roads as well as the provision of clean water, electricity, communication infrastructure and the renovation of schools, clinics, roads and other infrastructures.
Kambala was Swapo’s district coordinator for Onyaanya.
