Kalkfeld business park under construction

KALKFELD – The construction of the first-ever business park for Kalkfeld settlement in the Otjozondjupa Region is progressing well.

The complex was commissioned by the Namibia Development Corporation (NDC) in the beginning of August at Kalkfeld, 70 kilometres west of Otjiwarongo, and is being constructed by the Goro Investment Company.Construction site manager Immanuel Nambwa told Nampa on Tuesday that the first phase of the construction has already been completed.’We have completed the foundations of all five key buildings within this business complex, like the post office, petrol station, community market, public toilets and shop outlets,’ he said. Goro Investment is employing 27 workers for the construction of the Kalkfeld business park. The complex is expected to be completed within 18 months at a cost over N$14 million coming from the government’s national development budget. The money was channeled through the Ministry of Trade and Industry to the NDC to execute the entire construction of the business complex. The NDC will report on the progress of the project to the Ministry of Trade and Industry as well as the National Planning Commission (NPC) every month.Kalkfeld was proclaimed a village in 1991, but downgraded to a settlement in 1996, reportedy because of a lack of development and infrastructure growth.Otjiwarongo regional councillor Otto Iipinge in August said the Otjozondjupa Regional Council has a master plan to turn Kalkfeld into a modern town. Iipinge said the business complex is one of the projects out of many already approved by the Otjozondjupa Regional Council to bring development here.He said the Otjozondjupa Regional Council’s master town plan for Kalkfeld includes doing away with the bucket toilet system before December this year. – Nampa
