Justice Must Be Done

Justice Must Be Done

I AM very angry! The reason is what happened to my friend and Big Issue vendor Lofty Lottering.Maybe it’s just symptomatic of Namibia itself, a beautiful country rotting on a huge mountain of corruption! How on earth can a person who ran down a pedestrian and failed to stop at the scene of the crime, was witnessed by a policeman and apprehended, be allowed to walk free?

The reason given is that Lofty, because he was totally incapacitated in hospital, was unable to lay a charge within 48 hours! What utter incomprehensible nonsense. The culprit should have been charged by the policeman who apprehended the driver. He should have been charged with “failing to stop at the scene of an accident”, for starters. The report stated a “speeding Mercedes-Benz”, so secondly dangerous driving, and the report continued “in the early hours” so let us hear what the result was of the breathalyser test obviously carried out? If the report in The Namibian of October 25 is correct, then all one has to do if one commits a crime is to ensure that the victim is either dead or so incapacitated that a charge cannot be laid within 48 hours and you walk away scot-free.You cannot be serious! This matter needs re-opening, as the Police know who the culprit is, and justice needs to be done.Chris Colverd Via e-mailThe culprit should have been charged by the policeman who apprehended the driver. He should have been charged with “failing to stop at the scene of an accident”, for starters. The report stated a “speeding Mercedes-Benz”, so secondly dangerous driving, and the report continued “in the early hours” so let us hear what the result was of the breathalyser test obviously carried out?
