Namibia’s Julius Indongo, who is the current WBO Africa junior welterweight champion, will challenge Eduard Troyanovsky of Russia for the IBO World Super Lightweight title on 5 September.
This was announced by Indongo’s promoter Nestor Tobias in a press release on 20 August. The press release reads as follows:
It has barely been a month since the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Fitness Academy crowned Namibia’s fourth world champion in Paulus Ambunda, and now one of their greatest prospects have a golden opportunity to challenge for another world title.
Undefeated IBO World Super Lightweight/Junior Welterweight champion, Eduard Troyanovsky has challenged the in-form Julius Indongo who is the current WBO Africa champion by putting his world title on the line, and we gracefully accepted the challenge. This mega-fight will take place on the 5th September 2015 in Dresden Germany.
Eduard is a world class boxer and still undefeated with 22 fights and 22 wins. He is of Russian nationality but based in Germany. Eduard is a dangerous fighter but we are up to the task and have been negotiating this fight for a while now, said Nestor Tobias from the MTC Sunshine Academy. Julius is also undefeated with a record of 17 fights and 17 wins and that is what will make this fight classical. He is rated number8 in the world by the WBO.
We have invested responsibly in Julius boxing career by slowly moving him up the ranks to gain the necessary experience, he has a big heart, is a hard puncher with an impeccable boxing style which makes him equally dangerous and now that the champion has called out his name, he must deliver because it is an honour for a champion to call out your name among so many potential challengers in the world.
Julius is best known for his fast paced boxing style by keeping his opponents busy from the first till the last round, with combination punches, upper cuts, straight right and left hooks and right jabs being his trade mark style. Nicknamed the “Blue Machine” because of his firing power, this will definitely be the biggest fight in his boxing career and a rare opportunity that he promises to capitalize on.
Julius is fully deserving of this opportunity and we are ecstatic by the news. He has worked hard, maintained a high level of discipline, trains hard and is fully dedicated to his boxing career and we are therefore not surprised that this opportunity presented itself, said Tobias.
This will be the second time in two years that a world champion challenges an in-form fighter from the MTC Nestor Sunshine Academy. In 2014, former WBO Bantamweight Champion, Tomoki Kameda challenged Immanuel “Prince” Naidjala for a voluntary defence of his title, a fight that took place in Japan and Kameda won on points. “Our boxers are world rated and compare to any world class boxer and that is why their names are called, we are certainly proud of the level and it is good for the general standard of Namibian boxing, said Tobias.
“I was disappointed not to fight in August as my opponent did not make the weight, and now I have an opportunity to challenge the undefeated world champion away from home. I know it won’t be easy, but this is every boxers dream, I am very happy with my level of fitness and I will certainly go there to win but I know it won’t be easy. I would like to thank my promoter, our sponsor MTC and the Namibian government under the leadership of Comrade His Excellency, Dr. Hage Geingob for giving us an enabling environment to represent our country at the highest level of boxing. I promise my fans that I will go there and do my level best to bring this title home,” said a confident Indongo.
