Judiciary gets N$512 million for 2026/27 financial year

The Office of the Judiciary has been allocated N$512 million for the 2026/27 financial year.

Of this amount, N$497 million is allocated to operational expenditure and N$15 million to development expenditure, representing a total decrease of N$88.96 million from the previous financial year.

Prime minister Elijah Ngurare announced this on Wednesday in the National Assembly during the tabling of the judiciary budget allocation.

“The development allocation is directed towards the construction of magistrates’ courts at Nkurenkuru and Katima Mulilo. The Nkurenkuru project, deferred in the previous financial year pending cost verification, will now proceed with funding secured,” he said.

He said the Katima Mulilo project will further strengthen the judiciary’s infrastructure in the Zambezi region.

“Both initiatives are expected to expand court capacity and bring justice services closer to the communities they serve,” Ngurare said.

During the 2025/26 financial year, an amount of N$66.1 million was allocated to capital projects aimed at strengthening judicial infrastructure.

“Construction of the magistrates’ courts at Oshakati, Walvis Bay and the Omega 1 Periodical Court reached 39%, 64% and 37% completion, respectively,” Ngurare said.

Renovations to official residential accommodation provided to magistrates also progressed, with Khorixas at 95%, Eenhana at 57% and Keetmanshoop at 52% completion.

“The Office of the Judiciary remains committed to the completion of these projects,” he said.
