Johannes wins silver in PE

HELALIA Johannes won a silver medal at the Nelson Mandela Bay ASA Half-Marathon Championships in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, after coming second behind Mamorallo Tjoka of Lesotho.

Tjoka won the gold medal in a time of one hour 10 minutes 46 seconds, after beating Johannes in a sprint to the line.

Johannes, who won gold in the women’s marathon at the Commonwealth Games in Australia earlier this year, came second a mere five seconds behind, while Susy Chemaimak of Kenya came third in 1:12:32.

Stephen Mokoka of South Africa successfully defended his title in the men’s race to win the gold medal in 1:01:44

Mokoka, representing Athletics Gauteng North, won a fast men’s race in 1:01:44, edging out Benard Bil of the Nedbank International team by two seconds, while another Nedbank athlete, Linus Ruto came third in 1:01:48.
