Jeanius Music to release ‘Status Quo’ at Via Bistro

The time has come for the Jeanius Music to acquaint their audiences with their music with the release of ‘Status Quo’ on Friday at Via Bistro in Auspannplatz at 18h00.

Consisting of Jean-Michael, Neptune Black, Tatted-Mama and Basil, each member of Jeanius Music brings a different element which culminates in a 100% local sound.

Neptune Black says organising the event proved to be a challenging but fruitful learning experience.

“We thank God that we reached the targets we had set out from the get-go.”

The reason for hosting this launch at Via Bistro’s rooftop is to set a trend. In hopes to create an innovative culture, encouraging people to be supportive of local artists’ efforts and essentially for those in attendance to have fun.

“There is a worrying trend growing where South African hip-hop acts get more support in Namibia but we won’t pay to support our own.”

Regardless of being tight-lipped about the line-up for the evening, Neptune Black says they have a few friends from the industry who will be performing but their aim is to showcase their talent.

After spending countless nights in the studio, according to Neptune, this launch is an important milestone for the group as this is their first official album release.

With an entrance price set at N$120, the group believe this is reasonable considering the efforts put in and it includes a free bottle of SKYY Vodka at the door.

Jean-Michael, the mastermind behind Jeanius Music, birthed this idea from an observation that young talented artists in Namibia do not have the structures and plans to further their abilities. He has been in the game since the days of Cabinet ReShuffle in 2010, and later branched out Run N.A.M.S. He attributes his Jeanius Music brainchild to RUN N.A.M.S.

Neptune Black says he has been in the industry for a couple of years, in which he spent time studying the game and “studying” his “opponents”.

Tatted-Mama, the ‘wild card’ as declared by Jean Michael, is the only female rapper in the group. Regardless of being intimidated at first, she now believes she has found her calling in the music industry.

Sandwiched amongst these three rappers is R B singer and songwriter Basil. He sees himself as the artist who “relaxes you with soothing vocals and attractive lyrics”.

What can you expect? Quoting Jean-Michael from a previous interview, “it’s not really rap, it’s a feel good album. We are the current situation…”
