Jaguar F-Type’s Art of Performance

Everyone’s afraid of the monsters that hide under your bed, but I’m pretty sure no one would mind having this particular monster parked in their garage.

The Jaguar F-Type is certainly a beast that cannot easily be conquered, let alone tamed. Its roar alone is enough to spark fear in anyone’s heart. But that’s just when you haven’t gotten to know it yet. You’ll learn soon that if you treat this Jaguar right, it will be the start of a long, loving relationship.

Sports cars are a pleasure to drive, especially on a track where it’s just you, the machine and the road – while the only thing between life and death is concentraion. Taking the F-Type around a training track, which used to serve as a traffic officer training field in Pretoria, was definitely one of the most exciting moments of my life.

There was just something in my soul that lit up when I stepped into the F-Type; my heart started beating fast and my palms were slightly sweaty. But it allowed me to be the guide, to take it smoothly in and out of corners, and to speed down the straights with ease and comfort as turned my fantasies into reality for a few minutes.

The power is insane. The V6 engine wasn’t playing games that day.

So I had to see what an even bigger engine was capable of. The five-litre V8 engine definitely didn’t disappoint.

But before we get to the performance, let’s look at the interior. It fits the whole ambience of the car and ties together the look impeccably. Sleek black leather, tight and compact, top of the line infotainment and central control that completes the sportiness of the F-Type.

The exterior remains unmatched. In my opinion, it’s definitely one of the most beautiful sports cars ever – and that’s due to its simplicity and attention to detail. Every aspect of the F-Type was designed to deliver optimal performance and glide effortlessly on the road.

“A piece of design should tell a story. The F-Type’s lines have a start, a direction and a conclusion. Make every line individual and aesthetically correct, with the right dimensions, and it will stand the test of time,” said Ian Callum, Jaguar design director said.

The F-Type offers high quality, advanced engines which ensure optimal performance with a three-litre V6 engine delivering 250kW power; the five-litre V6 which delivers and astounding 405kW and the five-litre V8 offering 423kW. Each features a Roots-type twin vortex supercharger that maintains the engine’s compact dimensions.

The standard F-Type’s 3,0 V6 250kW engine achieves 450Nm of torque and acceleration is 0 to 100km/h in 5,3 seconds. The V6 engine in F-Type S has been modified to achieve a higher power output of 280kW and 460Nm of torque for even more potent performance. Acceleration is 0 to 100km/h in 4,9 seconds

The F-Type 5,0 V8 delivers up to 405kW and with an impressive 680Nm of torque while the acceleration is 0 to 100km/h in 4,2 seconds. Meanwhile the F-Type SVR’s 5,0 V8 engine is the delivers up to a jaw-dropping 423kW and 700Nm of torque accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 3,7 seconds.

Driving in the Jaguar F-Type is certainly an other-worldly experience; the power of this beast is truly the art of perfomance.
