There’s a stage where children only worry about food and that’s called childhood. After that stage, they have to go through something called the teen age. This is the most challenging stage if I am to say simply because one is being exposed to many things in life.
It’s hard to keep up with your friends who tell you all the things that their parents did for them, how their mothers took them out for shopping and bought them brand new Adidas tackies or even how one is promised a Samsung J7…
It’s that moment when your friends talk about social media: Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp and so on, but you are just there stuck in the middle not knowing what to talk about because you have apparently these ‘old fashioned phones’ which suit grannies.
And again, on this side are your parents telling you to stop hanging out with the most amazing squad. You call it amazing because you guys do whatever you please: You drink as you wish, smoke hubbly… But then you tell yourself it’s just too much. “I can’t take it any more,” you say and for a moment, you think “if only my parents were white” because apparently your parents are boring and they just don’t understand what being a teenager is.
As I said it’s not easy, do you want to know how to make it easy? It’s simple: Firstly what you need to do is to invite Jesus Christ in your life. Invite Him to guide you, to protect you and to lead your life. To show you which ways to follow, who to hang out with, what to do when temptations comes your way and secondly learn to accept who you are and believe in yourself.
It doesn’t mean you should be boring, no! This is the right moment to enjoy your youth, enjoy but have limits. You can do a lot of productive things, things that can benefit you and still enjoy.
This the same stage that prepares teenagers for adulthood and the definition of adulthood is responsibility. Take responsibility of your life. Whatever you do, you should be able to stand behind your actions, so that you don’t blame people when things don’t go well for you.
Your teenage years might not be the best ones, but that’s not the reason to give up, just believe in yourself and seek what’s right. Your past is not your potential, and note that in an hour, you can liberate your future!
