Former president Nangolo Mbumba says while it is an honour to be called president and commander in chief, it is far more difficult to be the nation’s chief mourner.
Mbumba was speaking at the memorial service of the late chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), Solomon Hawala, held at Ohakweenyanga village near Ongwediva on Friday.
“To the president, it is beautiful to be called president, it’s wonderful to be commander in chief. But there is one part of those honours that is difficult, being the chief mourner. I experienced it during my 13 months in office,” Mbumba said.
He added: “So, to you, we wish you strength to carry on the leadership of this beautiful nation. We thank you for honouring Solomon Hawala with a hero’s funeral.”
