Ithete still a leader in Swapo after ousting as minister – Oshana regional coordinator

Former deputy prime minister and minister of mines Natangwe Ithete is set to give a keynote speech at a Swapo gathering at Ongwediva in the Oshana region.

This is contained in a Swapo post seen by The Namibian this week.

According to the post, he will be accompanied by former minister of urban and rural development Erastus Uutoni at the Leisure park, Extension 11.

This comes in the wake of questions still lingering as to what led to his dismissal last Sunday by president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

Although the president remains mum on the matter, a video circulating on social media, in a closed door staff meeting with the mines ministry staff, she reveals that Ithete violated a presidential moratorium on oil and gas and the renewal of an exploration petroleum licence without approval.

Some party members have since defended the president, saying if she does not want to tell anyone it is her perogative.

Oshana regional coordinator Sam Nangolo on Friday told The Namibian that Ithete is still a parliamentarian and a leader in the party, and can address party members and the community at anytime.

“He is still a Swapo member, and there is nothing wrong with him to share his message with the people,” he said.
