ORLANDO Pirates coach Brian Isaacs has left the club after he was asked to do so late last week.
Isaacs confirmed to The Namibian Sport yesterday that he was asked to leave the team by former Orlando Pirates and national team great Steve Stephanus.
‘Mr Stephanus called me. I got this job through a phone call a few years back and it [my departure] also happened in the same way late last week. It is really unprofessional to do things in that way, but I accept the decision that they have taken,’ he said.
Isaacs said he got the call on Friday and was not in charge of the game between Pirates and SKW in which the Buccaneers lost 1-0 in Windhoek.
‘I have no regrets or hard feelings for losing the job. I want to thank the Orlando Pirates management for giving the opportunity to coach the team and the fans for their unwavering support throughout the years. I am happy with what I have achieved with the club and wish them all the best.’
Pirates’ technical director Dawid Snewe was in charge at the weekend and was earlier tipped to take over the coaching job after he was recruited from Mighty Gunners.
After Snewe’s appointment, it was just a matter of time before Isaacs, who is also the Brave Warriors assistant coach, was shown the door at the club, which is now 11 points adrift from top-placed SKW.
Isaacs said club owner Hendrik Dawids had not yet confirmed his dismissal in writing, but the indication he got from the people around him is that Dawids shares the same view as Stephanus.
Isaacs won his first league title with the team last season, while he also has two NFA Cups and a Humphries Security Guard Division trophy under his belt.
He was also a co-assistant coach alongside Ronnie Kanalelo at the 2008 African Nations Cup in Ghana under coach Arie Schans, while he also served under the late Ben Bamfuchile on national level.
