Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) member of parliament Imms Nashinge has called for an independent corruption probe into the Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB).
This follows whistleblower allegations of procurement bypasses and unfair salary hikes.
Nashinge in the parliament on Thursday questioned the minister of agriculture, fisheries, water and land reform over alleged corruption and governance failures at the board.
The NAB is a state-owned enterprise spearheaded by the agriculture ministry.
The allegations are contained in an internal whistleblower report, Nashinge said.
“Given the potential misuse of public funds and erosion of institutional integrity, agent oversight and interventions are required,” he said.
Nashinge said the report alleges deliberately avoiding or bypassing the Public Procurement Act and preferential treatment of connected individuals.
‘WHAT WILL YOU DO?’
Nashinge asked agriculture minister Inge Zaamwani-Kamwi whether the ministry is aware of the allegations and what steps are being taken to ensure accountability and restore public trust.
“What will you do to recover mispaid salaries and ensure uniform implementation?” he asked.
He raised concerns over salary payments at the board.
“Are you aware that six executives, including the chief executive, have received tier 2 salaries since April 2025, following last year’s reclassification, while the entire remaining staff continues on tier 1?” Nashinge asked.
Nashinge called for an independent investigation into the allegations.
“Will you commit to a transparent investigation led by the Anti-Corruption Commission and the auditor general and ensure the findings are made public and acted upon?” he asked.
