The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) says the late liberation struggle veteran Kanana Hishoono’s unwavering commitment and contributions helped pave the way for the independence Namibia enjoys today.
In a statement on Thursday, the IPC noted that its leadership is deeply saddened by the passing of the liberation struggle stalwart.
Hishoono died on Wednesday at the age of 89 at Ondangwa Private Hospital in the Oshana region.
The party described Hishoono as a revered elder, a mentor, and a walking library for younger generations, adding that his wealth of experience, wisdom, and first-hand knowledge of Namibia’s journey was a priceless treasure.
“He carried the memory of our past, not as a burden but as a guiding light, ensuring that the sacrifices of yesterday are never forgotten by the leaders of tomorrow,” notes the statement.
The party said his death is a great loss, as the father of IPC member of parliament and vice national general secretary Abed Hishoono.
“The values of service, sacrifice, and principled leadership that Tatekulu embodied are clearly reflected in the dedication of his son to our nation and our party,” the IPC added.
