IPC launches campaign for 2024 parliamentary elections

THE Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) launched its election campaign for the 2024 parliamentary elections in Goreangab, Windhoek, yesterday.

IPC leader Panduleni Itula said there is nothing wrong with starting an election campaign in advance.

“Is it too early? Early for our people suffering? Of course our people are suffering. Is there a time limit when they can suffer? No, there is no time limit. We are starting this campaign early to ensure that every Namibian understands their rights,” he said.

Itula used the day to call on skilled professionals and experts in various fields to come up with policies to guide the IPC once in government.

Itula said the IPC wants to allow the people to make policies, as that was the principle of grassroots participatory democracy.

“The time for politicians to make promises driven into the nation is over. Every citizen of this country now has to participate, to give us policies that align us to our people,” he said.

Itula singled out professionals such as teachers, engineers, architects and business people.

He wants teachers to come up with policies that will provide education that can contribute to the socio-economic development of the country, and he asked business people to come up with tax regimes that will create a conducive environment to run their businesses profitably and ensure they create jobs.

“We are determined to make it and we can only make it with the support of everyone,” he said.

Political commentator Ndumba Kamwanyah believes the IPC brings new approaches to politics.

He said the IPC could be testing the waters because the ruling party is hosting its elective congress this year, which is also a means of campaigning.

While it may be a good strategy, Kamwanyah is worried about how the IPC will be able to sustain itself until 2024.
