A Namibian Invitational Sevens rugby team has been selected to compete in a tournament in the Western Cape this weekend.

Trustco United loose forward Thehard Lintvelt will captain the team, while former Western Suburbs and national utility back Justin Nel is the coach.

The team will compete in the Witz Barbarians Sevens Tournament in Ceres on 16 and 17 January, following an invitation from the Witz Barbarians team that won the Ongos Sevens tournament in October last year.

Close to 40 players were selected after the Ongos Sevens tournament, and following a training camp in Windhoek last weekend, that squad was whittled down to the final 13 members.

The selected touring squad reconvened on Monday and had one training session before they left for South Africa yesterday.

The squad includes several prominent club players like Aljarreau Zaahl of Unam, Aurelio Plato of Kudus, Enrique Husselmann of United, Kian Fransman of Wanderers, Morgan Esterhuizen of Western Suburbs and Neil Holtzhausen of Grootfontein.

The Namibian Invitational Sevens rugby squad is as follows:

Thehard Lintvelt (captain), Aurelio Plato of Kudus (vice captain), Kian Fransman, Morgan Esterhuizen, Neil Holtzhausen, Soobramoney Sammy, Keeshan Beukes, Lasarus Joseph, Enrique Husselmann, Irongwa Atshivudhi,  Richard Kasimbu and Lucio Isaacs.

Bernice Doman is the team manager and Megon Sam the physio.
