Touch FM, NBC’s first commercial, youth driven entertainment radio station, was launched on 1 December 2018 under the leadership of popular Namibian radio stalwart Mario Locke.
The station, with its unique footprint, boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure and a staff compliment comprising of nine on-air hosts carefully selected from over 1 000 hopefuls who auditioned for a coveted spot.
Interestingly, all of the nine radio hosts have little to no prior radio presentation experience, and were trained in-house. Station manager Locke explains: “At Touch FM, we understand the importance of youth inclusivity and that the youth are key for national growth, economic sustainability and market dominance, both locally and internationally. Being able to select and groom the next batch of radio professionals is a matter of incredible pride and joy to us here at the NBC, and proves that yet another dream, the Touch FM Training Academy, is firmly within reach”.
Touch FM provides listeners with cutting edge entertainment programming, professional, energetic presentation, a fully interactive social media presence and an ‘all-hits’ music policy.
The station, which broadcasts in Windhoek and surrounding areas on the 91,7 frequency, is now home to the voices of versatile actor and MC Rodelio Lewis, who co-hosts ‘The Detour’ with Marycent Kashuwa from 15h00 and 19h00 weekdays.
“Touch FM is unlike any other station because it echoes the voices of the unheard. And with the daily themes on ‘The Detour’, we bring everyone together around one campfire to tell authentic Namibian truths,” Lewis says.
Coastal talent Joe Mulisa and Fonnah Kavetuna are the driving force behind ‘The Daily Dose’ between 12h00 and 15h00, Monday to Friday, while youngsters Donald Kariseb and Rachel Ngilimutete team up on ‘Touch After Dark’ which airs daily from 19h00 to 22h00.
Another surprise package is an all-female breakfast cast comprising of Lischen Khachas, Helvi Hishekwa and Jennifer Timbo. This dynamic trio head ‘The Big Breakfast’ daily between 06h00 and 10h00.
“We are an all-girl team who are fierce, entertaining and opinionated, and we offer our listeners not only great music but interesting, thought-provoking topics as well,” says Khachas.
“Apart from our established live weekly shows, Touch FM envisages to surpass the popularity of all other entertainment driven radio stations in Namibia, and will soon introduce weekend scheduling which is fresh, exciting and which aims to compete internationally,” Locke adds.
Plans to broadcast nationwide are currently underway, and the station will extend its footprint nationally throughout the course of 2019.
