International ministry launches five-year strategic plan

The Ministry of International Relations and Trade on Wednesday launched its five-year strategic plan for 2025-2030.

“The plan is a commitment to action, with an elaborate roadmap for executing our expanded mandate that now includes international trade and investment,” line minister Selma Ashipala-Musavyi said.

She said the plan also establishes the framework within which the ministry will execute its mandate in the next five-year planning period.

“The launch of this strategic plan represents a moment of vision, reflection, introspection and transformation.

“Over the past years, the ministry has made significant strides – from strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation and intensively promoting Namibia’s economic diplomacy, to deepening regional integration within the Southern African Development Community and the African continent, through the African Continental Free Trade Area, and advancing the cause of peace, security, and sustainable development through multilateral engagement,” she said.

The minister said the launch takes place amid unprecedented global trade dynamics, increasing digital transformation, shifting geopolitical landscapes and new regional partnerships and alliances that continue to redefine how nations interact and prosper.

She said the fast-evolving demographic trends at the domestic level are influencing the needs and aspirations of the population.

Ashipala-Musavyi said the plan aims to enhance the ministry’s operations to effectively and efficiently respond to emerging issues and development, in line with the country’s national high-level policy documents.

“Simply put, it is a compass geared towards advancing peace, security and stability, prosperity, sustained economic growth, trade and investment, reduced income inequality, youth and women empowerment, environmental sustainability, and promotion of our cultural heritage,” she said.

She said the plan is a call to collective action and a reminder that every Namibian has a role to play in advancing national interests.
